A reminder that April 6th is Election Day for a variety of races that affect the 5th ward. Early voting is happening now at the Vaughan Athletic Center.
If you are unable to get transportation to vote on the 6th, please feel free to call me for a ride. I will be available that day until 1:00.
As I mentioned in the past, our ward typically has the highest voter turnout. That’s something to be proud of but we need to continue with that. Voting makes a difference.
Yard waste pick-up without the need for stickers begins on April 5th and runs through April 16th. Thereafter stickers will be needed.
Also, bundled brush pick-up starts on April 5th. Bundled brush must be 1/2 to 4 inches in diameter and 2 to 4 feet in length. Bundled brush will be picked up through early November.

Alderman Carl Franco – We will be having a 5th ward meeting on February 17th at 6:30. It will be similar to what we did in October. It will be a combo of in-person and virtual. The in-person portion will be in the city council chambers. As of now we are only allowed to have 10 attendees due to the Covid restrictions. We may be allowed more as we approach that date. The attendees will be on a first-call first-serve basis. If interested, please contact me to get on the list. Prior to the meeting I will contact you to let you know if you are able to attend. Don’t assume that you are in unless I confirm with you. Masks are mandatory. The virtual portion will be streamed via Facebook live which can be accessed via the city’s Facebook page or this one.As is our normal meeting structure, we will have a guest speaker which for this meeting is Mayor Richard Irvin. Our Community Oriented Police officers and I will also give updates. As mentioned in the recent 5th ward newsletter, which I hope everyone received, our normal neighborhood group meetings have been suspended until the pandemic is past us. Hopefully by summer we can resume them.
Reminder the Orchard Valley Homeowners Association annual payment of $155.00 is due by January 31, 2019. Please remit payments payable to OVHA and send to Alpha Management, PO Box 4482, Aurora, IL 60506-4482.
Help the environment by making sure your real Christmas tree is reused as mulch and isn’t taken to a landfill.
Beginning Monday, January 4, real Christmas trees will be picked up for free during weekly trash and recycling collection. For two weeks – from Monday, January 4 through Friday, January 15 – no sticker is required for collection.
To be properly recycled, trees must be free of plastic bags, all decorations and tree stands, and placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on the normal collection day. After Friday, January 15, trees left at the curb on regular collection day must be stickered in order to be collected.
Due to the wire used to form them, wreaths and garlands will not be collected as recycling and must be stickered as trash.
Orchard Valley Homeowners Association is committed to the health and safety of all our residents, board members, management company staff and people we may come in contact with. We are taking precautions in order to help limit the spread of COVID-19 by cancelling this year’s OVHA sponsored Breakfast with Santa scheduled for December 12, 2020.
We are asking all residents to follow the Center of Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and distance themselves from any close contact as recommended. We appreciate your understanding as we work towards getting back to normal.
