This morning the Aurora Police knocked on my door shortly before 5am to make sure everything was OK. APD received a call from an alert neighbor who saw someone on the stoop by my side garage door. Please be sure to lock your cars and homes. If you see something which seems out of place, report it. Thank you to my neighbor!
I was saddened to hear of the tragic events on Aurora’s west side today, safety of the community is paramount at this moment, and I encourage all residents to follow the counsel of Aurora’s officials and law enforcement.
I wish a speedy and full recovery to the brave officers who responded to the call of duty, my thoughts and condolences are with their families and loved ones.
I commend the professionalism of the Aurora police department, and thank all the emergency and first responders from around the state for their support of our great city, which I believe will show it’s best self as we come together in the following days to heal and move forward.
From Alderman Carl Franco:
Due to the frigid temps, the side streets were not plowed curb to curb. If that were done the city would have wanted to salt those streets but the low temps would not allow the salt to be effective and hence create a more slippery situation.
With the snow event tonight, the plan is to plow the side streets curb to curb tomorrow once the snow stops and salt then as the temps will be high enough for the salt to be effective. We have used a lot of salt thus far this year and resources are slim so we don’t want to waste salt when it won’t have an effect.
