OVHA Garage Sale

Time to get ready for the Orchard Valley Homeowners Association’s annual Garage Sale. This years Garage Sale will be held Friday June 8th and Saturday June 9th. Hours are 8am to 3pm.

WACC meets every month on the third Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. at the 5th Ward Community Room, West Aurora Plaza, 1921 West Galena Blvd.

Blues on the Fox

Now in its 22nd year, the annual Blues on the Fox festival has attracted music and blues fans from all over the state and even the country. ALL of the vehicles were left UNLOCKED or there was no evidence of forced entry except for one. No arrests have been made and unless otherwise indicated, there is no discernable suspect descriptions. 2017’s major crime statistics are in.

What they say is below. We had a good year in 2017 as I’m sure you’ll notice. Overall, crime was down including a significant drop in violent crime. Of the eight major crime categories (murder, criminal sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault/battery, burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft and arson) we achieved impressive drops in six of them, one remained flat and only one category saw an increase when compared to 2016. Aurora Sailor Who Died At Pearl Harbor To Be Buried In Batavia

Howard Backman was just 22 when he was killed at Pearl Harbor. Now he’s finally coming back to his hometown.

AURORA, IL — U.S. Navy Petty Officer Second Class Walter Howard Backman was killed at the bombing of Pearl Harbor when he was just 22 years old. Like many of the other victims of Pearl Harbor, the Aurora native’s remains were not identified after his death. Now, after more than 75 years, Backman’s remains have been identified and will be buried in a Batavia cemetery, according to Chicago Tribune.  Continue reading
