Won’t you please help our K-9 Unit win an annual Aftermath Services LLC K9 Grant?

This year, the Aftermath K9 Grant will award a total of $15,000 in grants to five departments and their existing or prospective K9 programs for maintenance, safety equipment, or officer training. Officers and community members nominate and vote for local departments; the top five departments with the most votes will be awarded grants ranging between $1000 and $5000. Aurora Citizen Police Academy BBQ Fund Raiser Sept 19th

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 19th, from 4:30pm to 7:00pm at 1200 East Indian Trail, Aurora. Help our Citizen Police Academy Alumni raise money for un-budgeted items that benefit the department and our K-9 Unit while enjoying mouthwatering food from Reuland Food Service! The drive-thru fundraiser features two pork chops, two-piece chicken dinners, a combo platter consisting of one chop and one piece of chicken or a prime rib sandwich with ALL the trimmings. 9/11 Memorial Ceremony 8:30am – 9:30am

The Aurora Fire and Police Departments will host Aurora’s annual September 11 Memorial Ceremony on Monday.

Beginning at 8:30 a.m., Aurora’s public safety officials will be joined by Mayor Richard C. Irvin and community members at the Central Fire Station, 75. N. Broadway.

Marking the 16th anniversary of the tragedies in New York, Washington DC and Pennsylvania, the ceremony will feature a special Presentation of Colors and a Wreath Laying Ceremony by the Aurora Fire and Police Honor Guards with remarks from Aurora Fire Chief Gary Krienitz, Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman and Aurora Mayor Richard C. Irvin.

Animal Rescue Open House

Starfish Animal Rescue, a nonprofit animal rescue, will hold an open house from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at its shelter, 167 Oswald St. in Batavia. The public is invited. Cat and dog adoption information will be provided. Cats and dogs available for adoption may be viewed at the event. Volunteers will provide information and adoption applications. Hurricane Harvey Relief: Aurora Collecting Donations Through Sept 29

AURORA, IL — Residents can donate items to help residents of Hurricane Harvey-stricken Houston starting Tuesday in Aurora. While the city will not be accepting monetary donations, necessities such as bottled water, baby products and feminine hygiene products will be accepted Aurora’s Central Garage, 720 N. Broadway.

“In consultation with the Houston Mayor’s Office, the City of Aurora will assist in collecting high-demand items that can be used beyond the initial clean-up and recovery phase,” the city said in a news release. Continue reading

Happy Labor Day

Where did Labor Day come from?

Labor Day was created as a way to acknowledge and pay tribute to the workforce for all they have done to make our country prosperous and strong.

The first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City, and other cities followed this example in the following years. It was in 1894 that Congress passed a law making the first Monday of September a legal holiday.

The City Council took an important step in bolstering public safety, holding DUI offenders responsible for their actions, making police operations more efficient and saving taxpayers over $100,000 dollars annually, when they voted yesterday to hire a private law firm to handle all DUI arrests in the City of Aurora.
