Kane County Fair heads into its 150th year with rides, treats and nod to agricultural past

Thursday marked the official start of 150th annual Kane County Fair, offering a taste of the area’s agricultural side, the thrill of carnival rides and the kind of foods for which fairs are known.

Larry Breon, Kane County Fair Board president for the last 25 years, was a Batavia Boys 4-H Club member in his youth and part of the group who put up a flagpole on the current fairground when it opened in 1958 — the same year his champion steer was chosen to go to the Illinois State fair, he said.

West Aurora OKs nearly $3.9 million bid for construction of career development center

West Aurora School District has accepted a nearly $3.9 million general contractor bid for construction of a technical education facility.

The West Aurora School Board voted unanimously to award the lowest bid at $3,892,000 received from RC Wegman Construction of Aurora for construction of the Weisner Family Center for Career Development. Continue reading

4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS

Free Family Activities & Fireworks

Wednesday, July 4th, 6 to 10 p.m. At approximately, 9:35 p.m., The City of Lights will live up to its name with a pyrotechnic extravaganza illuminating the night sky with a rainbow of colors. Fireworks can be viewed from both locations and along the banks of the river.

Park Remotely & Ride our Shuttles for Free

The City of Aurora is offering free park and ride shuttle service from 5:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. providing round trip transportation to 10 convenient locations throughout the city. 4th of July Parade

The annual 4th of July Parade will take place on Wednesday, July 4th, with step-off at 10 a.m. This year’s theme is TBA.

The parade route will begin at Benton and River, head east on Benton, north on Broadway, west on Galena, south on Stolp, and west on Downer ending at River Street.

OVHA Garage Sale

Time to get ready for the Orchard Valley Homeowners Association’s annual Garage Sale. This years Garage Sale will be held Friday June 8th and Saturday June 9th. Hours are 8am to 3pm.

WACC meets every month on the third Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. at the 5th Ward Community Room, West Aurora Plaza, 1921 West Galena Blvd.
